Pensamientos Colaterales

Después de haber pasado casi 2 meses de mi retiro, hemos hecho acto de presencia de una de las mejores temporadas de nuestros peloteros venezolanos, no Hit no run, juego perfecto, triple corona, un MVP en la serie de playoffs, un MVP en la serie mundial, 8 venezolanos participando en la misma, y un MVP en la liga Americana, y esto solo en el béisbol. Tenemos una VINOTINTO encendida, una medalla de oro en los Juegos Olímpicos, Maldonado gano una carrera importante, en fin, el deporte en Venezuela ha demostrado ser capaz de competir con los más grandes del mundo.

Yo todavía estudiando mis posibilidades de ser coach, bien sea en grandes ligas o en las menores, pero hasta el momento no he tenido ofertas interesantes. Esperaremos hasta la reunión de los General Manager que será en un par de semanas para saber que pasara al respecto.

Me siento ansioso de saber cual será mi futuro después de una carrera de 24 años haciendo lo mismo, siempre es una interrogante empezar en algo nuevo, pero si bien interesante. Algunas veces hasta he pensado no hacer nada y dejar que el arte y la música se encarguen de divertirme a través del año.

Me gustaría mucho incursionar también en el mundo de las charlas motivacionales para incentivar a aquellas personas que tienen dudas sobre su actuación o desenvolvimiento de su trabajo. Creo que con estas experiencias que he logrado sería interesante compartirlas con aquellos que sienten cierta curiosidad con respecto al éxito.

Siento la capacidad todavía de poder jugar un año más, pero mi mente me ha dicho lo contrario, creo que es hora de empezar algo nuevo, y cuando tu mente te contradice deberías escucharla. Se lo he dado todo al béisbol y ahora buscare la forma de ser un Manager ganador y aplicar todas las cosas que he aprendido durante mi carrera.

Gracias a todas aquellas personas que han estado vinculadas en mi carrera de una manera u otra. He hecho grandes amistades tanto con periodistas como con camarógrafos, también coaches, managers, scouts y gente de cargos gerenciales, por supuesto con muchos peloteros y ha sido una forma bella de hacer mi vida y convertirme en lo que soy gracias al béisbol.

En la página web www.omarvizquel.com colocamos algunas fotos que fueron tomadas en los últimos tres días de mi última temporada, gracias a la cortesía de Steve Albanese fotógrafo de Cleveland que me ha acompañado en diferentes oportunidades en mi carrera para compartir con ustedes momentos especiales en Toronto y transportarse un poco a donde he actuado como pelotero, algo así como un detrás de las cámaras que algunas veces la gente pregunta.

GRACIAS a todos ustedes por sus aplausos y sus críticas constructivas que nos motivan en el día a día y sigan apoyando a nuestros peloteros que son figuras dignas de admirar.

GRACIAS especiales a mi compadre Mike Pérez por haber hecho posible esa pequeña ceremonia en el último día y reunir a mis compañeros. 

GRACIAS a Luis Aparicio por su largo viaje y querer estar conmigo. GRACIAS al gato Galarraga por su noble asistencia, por supuesto a mi gran amigo Carlos Baerga, el Hall de la Fama mi gran amigo Roberto Alomar por compartir conmigo también. A mi amigo Edgar Leal, al pana Juan Galavis representante del museo del Béisbol en Venezuela, a Rafael Dubois productor del documental A mano limpia  y al equipo de producción de Meridiano TV. Al gran Brandon mi ahijado por estar presente también y no puedo dejar de nombrar a mi comprensiva novia maracucha Blanquita García.

Collateral thoughts

After 2 months of my retirement from baseball as an active player we have witnessed one of the best years of Venezuelan players in the major league. The fact that we had a no hitter, a perfect game, a triple crown, an MVP in the playoff series and in the world serie, an MVP in the American League, a soccer team that is driving people crazy in the streets of Venezuela and even a gold medal in the Olympics which is a great accomplishment make me believe that we are living the best years in sports in my country.

I'm still studying my possibilities as a coach or manager, even if it is an offer in the minor leagues. It's just gonna be up to the situation where I'm gonna be in. The winter meetings are coming in couple weeks and I'm sure that something will come up.

I feel very anxious to see what my future is holding for me, since by this time I already had plan my workout sections, how to prepare for spring training and start working out with my skills as a player. It feels strange that now I have to start from zero and start walking into new grounds and even though is a little bit scary it is also a very exciting thing to do.

I also will love to try to do speeches about how to be successful coming from a foreign country and try to share some of my experiences that I lived as a player in my long career. I'll love to help not only my Hispanic community but also let the people know how hard and how difficult it is for us to gain the respect and to have the opportunity to get a spot in the big leagues and try to be successful.

Some other times I just want to be relaxed and spend more time with my family and let the art and music fulfill all my time for a while. But I still feel that I can use my physical strength to be on the field even to play another year but my mind is telling me something else and if you loose a little bit of that mental strength as a player it is time to do something else. I have dedicated all my life to baseball and I will find the way to try to be a successful person in another phase of my life hoping that could be as a winning manager someday.

THANKS to all those people that had been involved in my career for one way or another, photographers, clubies, scouts, people from the PR department, coaches and managers, people from the front office and of course all my teammates for making me grow up like a man and helping me become a better person in and off the fields. It had been a fun ride and without you guys it would have been very difficult to succeed.

I also want to thank all the FANS for all your support in the good times and the bad timed, through rain, snow, bad outings, errors,  hits, rain outs, rain delays, etc, without your claps and boos the game would never be exciting.
